Student Uniform & Dress Code

At the English Modern School, we take pride in our appearance. A clean, tidy uniform fosters a sense of belonging and respect, laying a professional foundation for the school day.

Purchasing Your Uniform

All students are required to wear the official school uniform.

  • Policy: Substitute uniform items from other sources are acceptable, provided they include our logo.

PE is compulsory for all students (medical exemptions require doctor documentation).

Primary students are encouraged to wear House Colours during House activities.

Dress Code & Appearance Standards

To maintain the high standards expected in Qatar and at EMS, please adhere to the following:

General Grooming

  • Hair: Must be neat and kept off the face/eyes. Primary students with long hair must keep it tied back.
  • Modesty: Tight clothing is not permitted on campus.
  • Headscarves: Girls’ scarves should be White, Navy Blue, or Black only.
  • Makeup: Excessive makeup, dyed hair, and nail polish are not allowed.

Policies & Enforcement

  • Responsibility: Parents are responsible for ensuring students arrive in the correct uniform.
  • Disciplinary Action: Incorrectly dressed students may be asked to obtain the correct uniform before entering lessons. Persistent disregard for the dress code will lead to disciplinary action.
  • Labeling: Please mark all clothing with your child’s name/initials. Unclaimed items in the “Lost and Found” are disposed of at the end of each term.

Jewellery & Accessories

  • Permitted: Watches and one pair of small earrings/studs in the earlobe (girls only).
  • Prohibited: Dangling earrings, other piercings, and excessive jewellery.
  • Headwear: High heels, beanies, or ball caps are not permitted. Jacket hoods and hats must not be worn in class.

Prohibited & Confiscated Items

The following items are unacceptable and will be confiscated immediately:

  • Clothing with non-EMS logos, political/religious logos, or offensive designs.
  • Toys or non-school items (e.g., spinners).
  • Pocket knives or any potentially dangerous objects.
