At The English Modern School the safety and well-being of our students are our highest priority. We are dedicated to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

A Shared Responsibility

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility staff, students, parents, and visitors alike. We take a proactive approach to child protection, ensuring that our community understands the importance of safeguarding and works collaboratively to protect every student.
The school has a dedicated Safeguarding Team and comprehensive safeguarding policies and procedures that are regularly reviewed to ensure they are aligned with local laws and customs in Qatar. We are committed to providing a safe, welcoming environment for all.

Our Safeguarding Commitment

At The English Modern School, we are committed to the following safeguarding principles:

Protecting Students

Every child has the right to protection from abuse and neglect. We educate both students and staff about safeguarding issues, ensuring that everyone knows how to recognize, respond to, and report any concerns related to child protection.

Open Communication

We encourage open, transparent communication between students and trusted adults. Students should feel comfortable approaching staff with any worries or concerns. Staff members wear badges to ensure they are easily identifiable to students, as do all visitors to the school.

Early Identification and Reporting

Our staff are trained to recognize the signs of abuse—whether physical, emotional, sexual, or neglect—and know how to respond appropriately. Early identification and prompt reporting are critical to ensuring the well-being of our students.

Clear Procedures

We have a clear and structured procedure for reporting safeguarding concerns. Any staff member who receives a disclosure or has a concern must follow the appropriate channels. A core principle of safeguarding at our school is that “if it’s not written down, it didn’t happen.”

Confidentiality

We treat all child protection matters with the utmost confidentiality. Information is shared only on a need-to-know basis to ensure the student's safety and well-being.

External Support

When necessary, we collaborate with external agencies to provide additional support for students and families, ensuring that students receive the help they need from qualified professionals.

Staff Training and Support

All staff members receive ongoing safeguarding and child protection training. This includes identifying signs of abuse, responding to disclosures, and following the appropriate procedures. We also provide support to staff to help them navigate the challenges of working with sensitive issues.

Data Protection

We are committed to the responsible management of personal data in line with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The school has a dedicated Data Protection Officer (DPO) and a robust Data Protection Programme in place to protect all student and staff data.
