Job Title: Intern Teacher

Division: English Modern School (EMS)
Reports To: Head of School, Principal or designate
Supervises: N/A

Job Summary:
An intern teacher’s main responsibility is to fulfill the role of a substitute teacher. This position provides valuable teaching experience by working in a variety of classrooms, with the intern teacher being the first choice for daily cover assignments arranged by school administration.

Key Responsibilities:

Instruction & Classroom Support:

• Show strong knowledge of learning theory and provide teaching-learning experiences that help students achieve stated outcomes

• Plan a variety of teaching strategies to match the learning styles of all students

• Clearly define the purpose for all learning activities

• Incorporate “Cambridge Learner Attributes” (CLA) in teaching

• Use media and technology to enhance lesson delivery and student performance

• Provide a classroom environment conducive to learning

• Give one-on-one attention to students needing extra help

• Accompany and assist on field trips

• Perform supervision duties as assigned by Principal or designate

• Attend department meetings when required

• Provide positive behavior management in class and around school premises

• Participate in the After School Activities program by leading one session per term

• Use free time to learn from others

• Attend all school Professional Development sessions

• Pursue further learning of subject area(s) and seek best pedagogy for school’s goals

Communication:

• Speak clearly, honestly, and with great concern for others

• Use fresh analogies to connect new concepts to students’ experience

• Vary means (visual, audible, tactile) and language depending on subject and student needs

• Maintain professional confidence about school information (students, teachers, administrators, parents)

Student Care:

• Treat each child as uniquely gifted

• Discipline all students fairly and firmly

• Clearly define responsible behavior with guidelines and consequences

• Encourage all students persistently

• Help students learn self-discipline through appropriate correction and counseling

• Guide students in helping other students learn

Stewardship & Organization:

• Use all school resources wisely as a living example to students

• Teach students to use resources wisely and respect property

• Hold students accountable for keeping the school clean and tidy

• Attend all meetings consistently and punctually

• Be on time for all supervision responsibilities

Community Building:

• Support administrators, fellow teachers, and support staff

• Adhere to school policies and guidelines

• Assist students beyond the classroom (playground, hallways, extracurricular, personal guidance)

• Meet with staff members to exchange advice for helping students meet school goals

• Model and encourage cultural awareness and understanding

Other Duties:

• Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate superior

Job Requirements:

• Educational Qualification: Teaching Certificate & Bachelor’s Degree

• Licenses/Certifications: Professional Training and Certification as outlined in the Intern Teacher’s Contract
