We recently marked World Book Day by proudly participating in the “Reading Hour” initiative. This fantastic event, designated by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in the State of Qatar, took place across all our schools and year levels on Wednesday, April 22, 2026.
Rooted in a firm belief in the importance of reading, the initiative aims to:
-
Promote the value of books in building student awareness and shaping personality.
-
Reinforce books as a primary source for information, research, and exploration.
-
Encourage the entire school community to act as reading role models for our students.
-
Strengthen the connection between students and libraries from an early age.
A Community Paused for Pages
During the designated hourβthe session immediately following the break periodβour entire school community paused their busy schedules to read. Every student, teacher, and staff member became an active participant, beautifully reinforcing the significance of lifelong learning.
To make the event a success, our teachers worked in close coordination with the Learning Resource Center (LRC) Officer. Together, they prepared and distributed books tailored to each student’s year level and our current curriculum. The time was utilized effectively, ensuring students were fully guided and supported in the practice of reading.
Fostering a Lifelong Bond
By dedicating this hour to literacy, we expect to see wonderful long-term outcomes. Not only are we acclimatizing our students to reading for both pleasure and educational benefit, but we are also actively strengthening the lifelong bond between our students, books, and libraries.
