Job Title: Counsellor
Division:Β English Modern School (EMS)
Reports To:Β Head of School, Principal or designate
Job Summary:
The Counsellor provides leadership in implementing a comprehensive school counselling program, focusing on guidance curriculum, individual student planning, preventive and responsive services, and system support. This role collaborates with students, parents, teachers, and administrators to promote student success through academic, career, and personal/social development.
Key Responsibilities:
Guidance Curriculum:

Provide leadership and collaborate with staff in implementing the guidance curriculum

Implement developmentally appropriate, prevention-oriented group activities
-
Incorporate life skills into the guidance programme
Individual Student Planning:
-
Assist in the admission process by conducting interviews as required
-
Make recommendations for student placement based on personal/social development criteria
-
Assist with orientation of new students and transitions within the school
-
Help students individually or in groups with academic, career, and personal/social skills development
-
Accurately interpret and utilize student data
-
Collaborate with parents and educators on educational, career, and life planning
Preventive and Responsive Services:
-
Provide individual and group counselling to students with identified concerns
-
Offer intervention services during crisis situations
-
Develop school-wide crisis protocols and serve on crisis management teams
-
Consult and collaborate with parents, teachers, administrators, and community resources
-
Assist teachers in developing individual behaviour management techniques
-
Provide workshops for parents on topics promoting positive adjustments and school success
-
Provide workshops for teachers on social, emotional, and behavioural development
-
Implement effective referral and follow-up processes
-
Use assessment procedures to determine and structure counselling services
System Support:

Provide appropriate information to school personnel about the counselling programme
-
Assist teachers, parents, and stakeholders in interpreting student data
-
Participate in professional development to improve knowledge and skills
-
Use available technology resources to enhance the counselling programme
-
Adhere to ethical standards of the school counselling profession
Communication:
-
Speak clearly, honestly, and respectfully

Give and receive feedback to improve performance

Exercise tact when discussing student deficiencies or dysfunction

Maintain confidentiality when required
Stewardship & Organization:

Use all school resources wisely

Teach students to use resources wisely and respect property

Establish routines and procedures for accomplishing duties

Maintain accurate records for meetings with students, parents, and teachers

Maintain accurate, confidential records for students receiving counselling services

Attend all meetings consistently and punctually
Community Building:

Support administrators, fellow teachers, and support staff

Adhere to school policies and procedures

Meet with staff members to exchange advice for helping students meet school goals

Model and encourage cultural awareness and understanding
Other Duties:

Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate superior
Job Requirements:
-
Educational Qualification:Β Master’s Degree in Counselling from an accredited university (preferred)

Experience:Β Minimum of 3 years of successful counselling experience in schools

Licenses/Certifications:Β Professional Training and Certification as outlined in school policy
